Independent reporting

The record comes first.

The ClawFiles investigates land use, water, public decisions, corporate relationships, and public money across southeastern Massachusetts. Every published claim is tied to a source grade so readers can see what the record proves, what remains alleged, and what is still unknown.

Independent means independent. No client, donor, sponsor, source, or subject buys coverage, approves copy, or purchases a conclusion.

Open the reporting

Different doors into the same record.

The public site shows verified, publication-ready material. The working archive remains private.

Evidence standard

What gets published.

  1. Primary records.Deeds, permits, contracts, agendas, minutes, public-record responses, and court filings.
  2. Technical evidence.Laboratory, sensor, or agency results only when the method and limitations can be explained.
  3. Official context.Regulatory and health guidance used to explain the record, not to stretch it.
  4. Firsthand accounts.Used with consent and the privacy protection the circumstances require.
  5. Causation.Stated only when the available evidence supports it. Questions remain questions.
